From January 2024 there will be trial courses for dogscooting and from February 2024 there will be beginners’ courses for dogscooting on Ærø. The trial courses take place on a single morning from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The beginners’ courses take place on five consecutive mornings from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Other times are possible during the cooler months. Both courses include a theoretical and practical part, and the content can vary depending on your previous experience and fitness.
The prerequisite for your participation is that your dog is adult, healthy and medium to large in size. It should not weigh less than 18 kg. You must be at least 18 years old and healthy. You don’t have to be in great shape! The aim of the courses is to get started with a sport that will get you both fit while having a lot of fun. Speed, skill, reflexes, and strength will come with time. The trial course and the beginners course are designed to help you learn the basics, try things out and “get a taste”. Purchasing a good dog scooter is expensive, so it makes sense to test this sport first.
And while we’re on the topic: Mushing is not a fair-weather sport! It is very likely that you will get wet and dirty. Please be prepared for this. The courses will only be postponed in case of very bad weather (e.g. storms, thunderstorms, heavy rain, icy conditions). Please remember to wear appropriate clothing and suitable footwear with non-slip soles. A towel for your dog is also useful.
We will discuss everything else after your booking. If you have any questions in advance, you are of course welcome to write me an email.
