The dogscooting trial courses usually take place on a single morning from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Different times are possible in the cooler seasons. The trial courses include a theoretical and practical part and can vary in content depending on your previous experience and fitness.
We start with a theoretical introduction to the required equipment and also adjust a harness for your dog and the correct handlebar height for your kickbike. With a little “dry run” you will get a feel for how to push off, brake and steer correctly. Meanwhile, your dog has the opportunity to lose any possible fear of the kickbike. And then you can try out the first few meters together on a flat, straight route with solid ground. Depending on how this works, your dog will initially be led on a leash or supported by one of my dogs as a “co-worker”.
After the course there is of course the opportunity to reward, warm up or cool down.
The prerequisite for your participation is that your dog is adult, healthy and medium to large in size. It should not weigh less than 18 kg. You must be at least 18 years old and healthy. You don’t have to be in great shape!
For quick learning success, it is an advantage if your dog is familiar with bicycles and, in addition to the common basic commands for stop, run and slow (language and choice of words do not matter), already knows call signals for right and left. This isn’t a must, but you might want to practice it a little beforehand to get further. I would be happy to give you tips on this.
If your dog is nervous or even aggressive around other dogs, please let me know when you register, as in this case only an individual course may be an option.
If your dog is easily distracted from the path, for example by a cat on the side of the road, please let me know before the start of the course at the latest.
It is very likely that you will get wet and dirty. Please be prepared for this.
The courses will only be postponed in the event of very bad weather (e.g. storms, thunderstorms, heavy rain, icy conditions). Please remember to wear appropriate clothing and suitable footwear with non-slip soles. A dry towel for your dog is also useful.
We will discuss everything else after your booking. If you have any questions in advance, you are of course welcome to write me an email.
